Enjoy 10 hours of private Copper Canyon touring to Urique Canyon overlook from either Creel, or Divisadero. The ideal circumstance for this tour is to be picked up from your hotel in Divisadero in the early morning, enjoy the full day of touring to Urique Canyon, then be dropped off at your hotel Cerocahui. In this way you use the tour as a transfer as well (saving the train ticket cost) and the day is a bit shorter for you since you don’t have to backtrack at the end of the day.  This Copper Canyon tour is all about enjoying a day ‘off the beaten tourist path’ with the expansive Urique Canyon views as the icing on the cake. It drives through the villages of San Rafael, Bahuichivo and finally along a dirt road to the overlook of Urique Canyon at Cerro Gallegos. There is a stop at the Mission in Cerocahui, time permitting.

  • Tips to drivers, guides or service personnel
  1. 8:00am Pickup from hotel

Please be ready and waiting in the reception area of your hotel for your guide. He will be there to meet you a few minutes before your scheduled pickup time. (FYI: This tour is optimized by being picked up in Divisadero and dropped off in Cerocahui, or vice versa).

  2. 8:15 - 11:30am Scenic Drive to Canyon

You’ll be driven several hours through the villages of San Rafael and Bahuichivo, onto the overlook of Urique Canyon. Enjoy the drive with wonderful canyon views as you go along.

  3. 11:30 Urique Overlook and Lunch

We’ll stop at the overlook of Urique Canyon, called Cerro Gallegos. Here you can walk along the cat walks and installations to get the best views of this canyon, with the village of Urique far below along the winding river. Enjoy a box lunch at the overlook (not included. Please bring one with you, or purchase one at time of booking as an optional add-on).

  4. 1 - 2pm Drive to Cerocahui Village

It will take an hour to drive from the overlook to the village of Cerocahui. Once there, you can get out to take some photos of the Cerocahui Mission. The town is very tiny and not terribly interesting but the mission is lovely. This will be a brief stop as we have a long way to go to return to Divisadero or Creel. (FYI: Ideally you should book a hotel tonight in Cerocahui so you can be dropped off here and enjoy the rest of the afternoon in this area instead of returning to Divisadero or Creel OR if you are starting in Cerocahui, then spend the night in Creel or Divisadero for best efficiency).

  5. 3:00pm Scenic Return Drive To Divisadero or Creel

We’ll return to Creel the same way we came so you can enjoy the views from a different direction. Rest up after a good day of sightseeing to a gorgeous canyon, while your guide drives you safely back to your hotel.

  6. 6:00pm Drop Off At Hotel

You’ll be dropped back at your hotel after a full day of canyon touring. Be sure to ask your guide about restaurant recommendations for dinner tonight, and be sure to check out our Face Book page in the next week or so as we’ll be posting your Urique Canyon day tours photos for you, your friends and family to enjoy!

Layers are always best and a light jacket or rain gear during the rainy season (July through Sept.) is also prudent. The weather can change abruptly here in the canyons at these altitudes so it is best to come prepared for a bit of everything.

So sorry, but in order to drive you the great distance to see the canyon overlook, there is simply no time for hiking. Though you will get to enjoy about an hour or so at the overlook, and you can do a bit of walking there along the trails.
